SA Post Office: We are not running on empty

Cape Town - Although its current contract for fuel cards expired, deliveries are continuing, SA Post Office spokesperson Khulani Qoma told Fin24 on Friday.

"It is incorrect to suggest that the SA Post Office has run out of fuel, as deliveries are continuing currently," he said in reaction to rumours that the state-owned company had run out of fuel and cannot make deliveries.

A user told Fin24 on Thursday that Sapo was running on empty because its petrol cards have been discontinued. This was apparently impacting deliveries.

Qoma confirmed that Sapo's current contract for fuel cards has come to an end, but said discussions with a different supplier of fuel cards are currently at an advanced stage.

Sapo was put under administration in November last year after a protracted four-month strike affected its business operations.

Last month Sapo had to soothe employee fears after they complained of not getting paid on Friday, July 24 as would be the case when the 25th falls on a Saturday.

Sapo assured that employees below management level would get paid on Saturday, July 25, while management would get paid at the end of the month.

Qoma told Fin24 then that Sapo revenue had been down since the strikes. Some customers left Sapo due to the frequent, lengthy and very disruptive strikes.
