Johannesburg – The Fin24 newsroom has been inundated by emails from Fin24 users expressing their disgust, anger and frustration with the e-toll system in Gauteng.
A Fin24 user describes his surprise and confusion after receiving an e-toll account:
I actually registered for e-tolling back in April last year, but then sold the vehicle that was registered.
I went into a regional e-tag office in Rivonia Road and cancelled the registration. At the time I enquired about what I should do with the e-tag that I had bought for R50 on registration and was told that I had bought it and it was now mine.
At the time of registration I also paid R150 into my e-toll account, which had already been credited with the R50 I had paid for the e- tag.
In about June last yearm on reading my e-toll statement, I noticed that my account only showed a credit of R50 as Sanral had deducted R150 for the non-return of the e-tag when de-registering.
Sanral, on one hand, in effect gave me the e-tag and then charged me R150 for not returning it, even though I was told it was now mine.
Not a bad business to be in.
