Just who will e-tolls benefit, Thrifty?

A Fin24 user James Gillespie has some pertinent questions for Fin24 user Thrifty, who finds e-tolls entirely affordable. He writes:

I appreciate the fact that you (Thrifty) have, because of etolls, now bettered your own financial circumstances.

I would like for you, using the same argumentative and descriptive passion you used in your first response, to explain to us as normal South Africans what the benefits of etolls will be?

Please specifically answer the following questions:

Will there be less congestion on the roads?

Will the petrol price decrease more than increase on an annual basis?

Will the levies and taxes on petrol be reduced?

Will there be fewer potholes on SA's roads?

Will there be fewer accidents and incidents on our roads?

Will fewer lives be claimed on the roads?

Will people drive more carefully?

Will driver's of fancy cars speed less?

Will government officials drive normal speeds and not push other road users of the roads?

Will mileage and maintenance costs on vehicles be reduced?

Will taxis and busses travel more safely, less recklessly and be more roadworthy?

Will our streetlights always be in working order?

I ask you again, please answer these questions with proper references made.

Quite frankly, if you or the SA government or Sanral can guarantee that the above mentioned problems will decrease or, better yet, be completely eliminated, then I too will be for etolls.

On a more serious note, everyone in SA, even a 10 year old child, will be able to tell you that the above mentioned issues will NOT be resolved.

Not by Sanral, not by e-tolls and not by the current SA government.

So dear Thrifty, unless you can confidently and with proof answer yes to the above questions, I suggest you go back to dreaming of how to substantiate your argument.
