A Fin24 user who already spends R400 per month on Pretoria tollgates writes:
My main concern is going to happen with the Bakwena toll gates that I am already paying twice a day at Zambesi in Pretoria.
I am taxed on absolutely everything, so the ridiculous amounts of money I pay in income tax, VAT, sin tax, fuel levies, etc should cover things like this. But then like with anything else, the government just swallows my money:
- Taxes should pay for roads, but they implement e-tolling;
- Taxes should pay for healthcare, yet I still need medical aid for a decent hospital;
- Taxes should pay for security, yet I still have a public security company protecting my house; and
- Taxes should pay for education, but we all know how
expensive school fees are.
I've paid for everything twice, even three times over, because
taxes come off my salary, and are also added to everything that I buy.
On top of that, I spent roughly R400 a month at the Zambesi toll gates to drive from Zambesi to Lynnwood (which is 6km), then I need to pay additional tolling from Lynnwood to John Vorster (which is 13km).
According to
the original rates of R0.30 per km that I would pay if I had an e-tag, my R16 a day that I pay to Bakwena at Zambesi allows me to drive about 50km a
day on that highway. This covers my entire trip.
I don't care that Bakwena and Sanral are two different entities, those are problems that they need to sort out. I'm not paying twice for that!
