E-toll billing woes continue

Johannesburg - Fin24 users are still very vocal about non-payment of e-tolls, and it seems as if more motorists are receiving Sanral accounts that do not make a lot of sense.

A Fin24 user says:

We have an issue that can be simply corrected, but Sanral blatantly refuse to do so.

We are registered as a company on the system.

Two of our vehicles are Hyundai H100’s. We replaced the drop sides with a closed body. The base area of the closed body is exactly the same dimensions as a standard drop side only with the height naturally being higher.

If I'm correct the correct tariff should be class A (vehicle 2 axels, not longer than 6m and not higher than 2.5m).

Our two vehicles are 4.650m long and 2.420m high, well within and certainly still the normal two axels that any Hyundai H100 comes out, but Sanral has changed this to small heavy vehicles with three or more axels.

We have lodged complaints and even have a reference number, but nothing has come of it.

When we call the consultant simply says when they look at the picture of the Hyundai it looks like a truck.

We have told them that Zuma signed into law certain parameters whereby the class is identified and Sanral is simply deciding on viewing a picture. Our reply was possibly get a competent person to look at the pictures. They have all the correct dimensions but refuse to budge.

How do we proceed with this as we are now paying a ridiculous amount every time the vehicles go through the gantry.

A Durban Fin24 user says:

I wonder if this is a first.

My wife was advised via SMS that she owes over R200 in e-toll fees and the SMS states the  account has been handed over to VPC for collection.

We live in Durban, have not registered for e-tolls and have not been near Gauteng since e-tolling started.

Is this a error, or perhaps fraud on someone's part whereby they have false plates on their car? It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Another Fin24 user says:

E-tolling is just a big disaster. Received SMS that I have been transferred to VPC for R88.29!

I called a few times requesting an invoice, because I want to pay. However, I want to see an invoice first.

I have not been successful, despite promises of sending the invoice by email.

And finally - a Fin24 user says he's chuckling:

My daughter got an an SMS to pay her outstanding e-toll bill. She doesn't have a car and has only a learners' licence.

We are not e-tagged and don't intend to become e-tagged.

I laughed when she told me about the SMS. I'm not wasting any of my time or energy on e-tolls.
