My attempts to become an entrepreneur

A Fin24 user has responded to the article Apathy killed my business by telling of his own experience in trying to become an entrepreneur. He writes:

So, I am 21 years of age sitting almost in the same spot due to the fact that I don't have any business training, but I just have this urge to try it and do it.

I understand where this person is coming from - quite frankly, the so-called job creation mission our so-called ministers say works, doesn't. So I am still on the verge of creating my gaming and technology company in South Africa, which I have been trying to do now for four years.

I have been to several places, one of which was the Branson Centre. They just said to me I should "Google my problems in creating a business" - those are their exact words.

There isn't an official place to go for people that are starting companies in SA and quite frankly, if you want to start a business in the gaming and technology industry or any other industry in SA you have to either have a lot of good friends or know some important characters.

I am building my company off a simple and efficient rule. You don't work = you don't get paid. The only two official people in my company are myself the Founder/Director, as well as my Co-director, there are no bickering managers and so forth.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it

People join the company and we all work on better ways or things we could offer to consumers (projects) that would help them or inform them.

Now each project has a set leader running it; it is the leader's job to tell myself and the Co-director what people they would like working under them and that sort of thing, leaving the onus of finishing the project solely up to the leader and his group under him.

If they don't finish the project, then no one gets paid. Not even me.

If a leader's members aren't doing the jobs assigned to them by the leader, then he must sort them out and tell us who is to be kicked out.

The funny thing is a very well-known company in the US has this sort of structure in their company.

But back to the point: trying to start a business, even with training, is not an easy thing to do. My advice since we have a very bad global economy is: don't make debt.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it. If you're trying to start your company, try to find ways of starting slowly. People just expect to be paid well; if you join my gravy train - you don't work, you don't get paid, it's that easy.

In the long run, I am trying to build something that brings back the step in your life, to have "me" time. If you don't want to be a part of my idea or my dream, then there's the door and have fun trying to find another job. I know how hard it is.

Let's work together.
