Johannesburg - Over four million tax returns had been filed
with the SA Revenue Service by Thursday last week for the 2010/11 tax season,
the highest number in the country's history.
The 4 010 980 returns were filed by individuals, trusts and
provisional taxpayers, Sars spokesperson Adrian Lackay said in a statement on
Sunday.
"At the corresponding time for the 2010 tax season,
Sars had received 3 523 707 returns... a 13.8% increase in the number of
returns submitted."
Provisional taxpayers - individuals with additional sources of income like investment income or trading income from operating a business - still had until midnight on Tuesday, January 31 to submit returns electronically.
