Johannesburg - The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 43 cents a litre on Wednesday December 5, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday.

The wholesale price of diesel will increase by 51c a litre and by 52c for 0.005% sulphur.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will increase by 58c a litre, while the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will increase by 78c a litre.

The latest changes bring the retail price of a litre of 95 octane unleaded petrol in Gauteng to 747c/l and to 723c/l at the coast - new highs.

In June the price of petrol hit an all-time high of 724c/l.

During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.

The average rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period November 2 2007 to November 29 2007 was 6.7243 compared with 6.7877 during the previous period.
