A Fin24
user wants to know how the JSE All Share index is calculated. He writes:
How many companies are used in calculating the JSE All Share index? Is it 160
or 166 companies, or is it all the companies that are in the index?
Simon Brown of JustOneLap responds:
The All Share index is not the entire market. It consists of the largest 164
listed companies and is almost 100% of the market cap and liquidity of the
market.
This is how some of the other prominent indices are calculated:
• Top40 = 40 largest companies
• Indi25 = 25 largest industrial companies
• Fini15 = 15 largest financial companies
• resi10 = 10 largest resource companies
• MidCap = 60
