A Fin24 user was surprised to find he has a bad credit record for an overdue account he could not remember having opened. He writes:
I have recently requested a credit report in preparation to apply for a bond on my first house.
I was shocked to find that I have been listed as a defaulter by FNB.
I have never had a loan or credit with FNB and now my future has come to a complete standstill for R516 I know nothing about.
I got married only six months ago and have a baby on the way and I am worried that this will also affect my future job prospects.
Ilse Smuts, head of marketing for VBS (Value Banking Solutions) at FNB, responds:
Thanks for your query. We can confirm that the customer did open an account with us. We have been in contact with the client and this matter is now resolved.
When you do open an account, write it down along with all your other accounts so that you don’t get into a situation where you have mounting fees.
Also make sure that you understand the fees that are associated with any account that you open. You need to understand that once you have signed for and opened an account, it is now your responsibility to service those fees.
