Johannesburg - The High Court in Johannesburg on Friday ordered that the board of Bonitas Medical Fund be divested of its powers as trustees, the
Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) said.
"The (court) divested the Board of Trustees of Bonitas of their powers as trustees," said spokeswoman Aleksandra Serwa in a statement.
The order followed a counter-application by regulator CMS to an application by the medical scheme interdicting the CMS from instituting proceedings to remove the board for not being fit and proper."
The governance of Bonitas would now be managed by acting principal officer Gerhard van Emmenis and compliance officer Joseph Maluleke who would be required to report to CMS on a weekly basis and consult with the organisation on governance issues.
Bonitas would be required to hold a special general meeting no later than December 6 this year to elect a new board of trustees.
