Johannesburg - The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) said on Monday it was concerned about the disclosure and reasoning underlying the decision not to prosecute Jacob Zuma.

In a statement, SACCI CEO Neren Rau said: "SACCI remains apolitical and does not hold a view for or against such a decision; however, SACCI firmly holds the belief that such a decision must be soundly reasoned and that such reasoning must be fully disclosed."

He added that transparency in this process is essential to preserve confidence in the democratic process and in the institutions entrusted with upholding democracy.

"The NPA must be perceived as independent, above reproach and free of the perception that it offers political solutions. These are essential prerequisites for the conduct of business and for favourable investor interest in South Africa," Rau added.
