Cape Town - With the summer season soon upon us, boat owners and particularly those that have not used their vessels during the winter months will be raring to get their vessels into the water and enjoy time with their friends and family.

It’s vital that a boat owner’s vessel is appropriately insured to eliminate the risks and the associated financial impact that boating presents whilst in use, in transit and in storage, according to Vanguard Insurance MD Bradley Kuhn.
“The fundamental covers of fire, theft, damage, and liability are equally important whilst the vessel is stored in a garage or mooring, whilst it’s being towed to the venue behind a motor vehicle, and at the beach or water’s edge ready for launch.
“A loss or damage to the boat owner is always a substantial potential loss, but it pales into insignificance when compared to the liabilities that the owner will be responsible for in the event of the vessel, and/or trailer being involved in an incident where the owner is found to be legally liable.
“It’s imperative that the owner ensures that the vessel, its trailer and equipment are in ship shape condition at all times. The licensing of the vessel in terms of legislation is obligatory and is undertaken with an annual physical inspection of the vessel.
“Enjoy your time on the water and ensure you insure adequately,” he said.
