Never save your password on your desktop. This allows people to access your personal information, without your permission.
Resist the temptation to make your passwords too personal. Instead make use of passwords that have letters and numbers that cannot be attributed to you.
Never provide your Online ID or password/PIN to anyone. Never write them down or share them, not even with employees of your bank. Neither should you provide your details to any website that you are not familiar with.
Only provide your details when your browser shows a Secure Socket Layer. This links you directly with the bank.
Do not leave your computer unattended. Don't move when doing your banking or after having entered your details on the site.
Always log or sign off at the end of a session.
Three strikes and you're out. For security reasons you only have three attempts to enter your PIN/password correctly before access is denied. If that happens you will have to reset your password/PINS at the nearest branch.
Do not open email from unknown sources. Be very cautious of emails that ask for passwords, PINS, credit and debit card information.
Avoid doing your internet banking in public spaces. Internet cafes are fertile ground for software that could compromise your transactions.
Make sure no one has unauthorised access to your PC.
Be aware of where the security cameras are. Make sure they are not trained on your PC and keyboard.
Update your anti-virus software applications religiously. Use only licensed software.
Update your operating system and browser with the latest patches. Install a personal firewall on your PC if you use a dial-up modem.
Provide details to reputable companies. Ensure that you are using a secure shopping site, look for the lock and key security certificates online.
Lastly, use all the measures your bank has put in place to safeguard your internet banking experience.
