Standard Bank warns internet, mobile users

Cape Town – Learning from their hardware crash that affected its customers, Standard Bank has sent out an alert warning of a possible disruption on Sunday, due to scheduled maintenance.

Customers would still be able to make cash withdrawals and deposits at ATMs, and would be able to use their Standard Bank debit, cheque or credit card to make payments, Standard Bank said in a statement.

However, Standard Bank’s Banking App, internet and cellphone banking facilities would not be available intermittently on Sunday morning.

“The overall experience and services offered to customers remains top priority and a key focus for Standard Bank,” the bank said.

On September 1, Standard Bank experienced a hardware crash, resulting in all of its systems crashing. Customers were left stranded at petrol stations without warning and with no way of paying for their purchases.

This scheduled maintenance should not have the same affect.

“Standard Bank aims to ensure that our customers have a positive banking experience whenever they make use of our range of banking services,” said Funeka Montjane, Standard Bank’s chief executive of personal and business banking in South Africa.

“This involves rigorous system enhancements and maintenance so that our banking facilities and services remain world-class.”

“We understand the frustration and impact to customers that the disruption may have and apologise in advance for any inconvenience. In order to ensure that the impact is minimal, we urge customers to please plan ahead in terms of their banking requirements,” said Montjane.

Should customer have any queries, they are encouraged to contact Standard Bank’s call centre on 0860 123 000.
