Tokyo - The Tokyo markets fell on Thursday as investors sold shares to lock in profits from the previous day's gains.
The key Nikkei 225 Stock Average ended morning trading at 10 470.99, down 168.72 points, or 1.59%, after it closed on Wednesday trading at an 11-month high.
The broader-based Topix index was also down 15.05 points, or 1.54%, to 960.54.
On currency markets at 02:00, the dollar traded at ¥94.07 to ¥94.12, down from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of ¥94.17 to ¥94.18.
The euro traded at $1.4235 to $1.40, down from late Wednesday's quote of $1.4337 to $1.40, and at ¥133.93 to ¥133.98, down from ¥135.02 to ¥135.06.
