Johannesburg - The JSE opened a fraction firmer on Wednesday morning, in line with global markets.

A local equities trader noted resources stocks led the local bourse higher, amid firmer metal prices.

At 09:20 the JSE all share index was up 0.26%, with resources 0.62% better, the gold mining index added 1.34% and platinum miners were 0.51% higher.

Banks declined 0.13%, financials slipped 0.08% lower, but industrials advanced 0.07%.

The rand was bid at R7.57 to the dollar, from R7.56 seen at the JSE's close on Tuesday. Gold was quoted at $1 134.66 a troy ounce from $1 126.74 at the JSE's last close. Platinum was at $1 575/oz from $1 565/oz at the JSE's last close.

"We have seen a flat start this morning, with no drama," a local equities trader said, noting Asian markets only marginally up, as was the Dow at its close overnight.

"Resources have ticked up a bit on rising metal prices," the trader said.
