Johannesburg - The JSE opened firmer on Wednesday, led by gains in resources and platinum miners. This was largely in line with world markets, where resources stocks are also a feature.
At 09:14 the JSE all share index was 0.54% higher, with resources up 1.18%, platinum miners collecting 1.42% and gold miners 0.57% firmer.
Banks were off 0.12%, financials were flat (-0.06%), while industrials were up 0.25%.
The rand was bid at R7.43 to the dollar from R7.45 when the JSE closed on Tuesday. Gold was quoted at $1 118.53 a troy ounce from $1 111.24 at the JSE's last close, and platinum was at $1 588.50/oz, from $1 560/oz at the bourse's previous close.
