New York - Wall Street stocks opened nearly flat on Monday as markets steeled themselves following the Paris terrorist attacks and warnings of additional possible attacks.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 17 241.46, down 3.78 points (0.02%).
The broad-based S&P 500 added 1.66 (0.08%) at 2 024.70, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index dipped 3.92 (0.08%) to 4 923.96.
The declines came in the first session since Friday's attacks across Paris left 129 dead and hundreds more injured.
Briefing.com analyst Patrick O'Hare described European markets as showing "some impressive resolve" in rallying somewhat after falling sharply.
CIA director John Brennan warned that the attacks in Paris were likely not a "one-off event" and that he expects Islamic State has more operations in the pipeline.
