New York - US stocks opened lower on Wednesday, following most international markets downward on worries about global growth and the fallout from the British vote to leave the European Union.
The losses came as government bond yields remained near all-time lows on expectations of more easing from central banks. Traders awaited the Federal Reserve's release of the minutes from its June policy meeting in the afternoon, hoping to find clues to the path of interest rate increases.
Gold prices rose again, another sign of the flight to safe assets.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 17 760.08 points, down 0.5%.
The broad-based S&P 500 fell 0.5% to 2 078.46, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index declined 0.6% to 4 793.73.
