US stocks slump amid eurozone worries

New York - US stocks closed barely lower on Monday, with buyers finding little fresh inspiration after last week's five-year highs to offset a fall in energy shares.

At the closing bell the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 21.73 points at 13,971.24.

The S&P 500 fell 0.92 to 1,517.01, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite lost 1.87 at 3,192.00.
