New York - US shares opened slightly lower Friday, shrugging off the Shanghai market plunge, with ConAgra Foods in play on a shake-up push by activist investor Jana Partners.
About five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 21.28 points at 18 094.56, and the broad-based S&P 500 slipped 0.13% to 2 118.38.
After sweeping to a new record Thursday, the Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.04% at 5 130.92.
