New York - The Dow turned higher in the final hour of trade on Thursday to finish in the black, but downturns across the board in tech stocks hit the Nasdaq for a loss in the day.
Despite one percent-plus gains on major European bourses, New York traders held pat on tepid US data and a still-unclear picture for the eurozone.
At the closing bell the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 33.53 points, at 12,529.68.
The S&P 500-stock index gained 1.87 (0.14%) to 1,320.73, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 10.74 (0.38%) to 2,839.38.
Facebook shrugged off the threat of lawsuits over its IPO debacle Friday to bounce up 3.2%, ending at $33.03, still well below the original issue price of $38.
