New York - US stocks dipped in opening trade on Monday, following lower European equity markets after Greece's parliament failed for a third time to elect a president.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 18 033.61, down 20.10 points (0.11%).
The broad-based S&P 500 slipped 1.15 (0.06%) to 2 087.62, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index shed 1.14 (0.02%) at 4 805.72.
The failure of the Greek parliament to elect a president will force early elections in the coming weeks that could see a radical left party win power.
Greek stocks plunged as much as 11% after the vote, with fears that the anti-austerity Syriza party could undo many of Greece's economic reforms if it wins the election.
The Dow and S&P 500 stood at records heading into Monday's session.
