Johannesburg - The JSE said on Tuesday that trading on SAFEX had resumed after being halted for about 40 minutes due to a technical glitch.
On Monday, the JSE temporarily shut down trading on its futures exchange, citing technical problems.
Michelle Joubert, head of investor relations at the JSE, said on Tuesday SAFEX had halted trading from 11:25am local time to 12:05pm.
Joubert said only equity derivatives were affected, noting it was still too early to say whether Monday's shutdown was related to today's closure. The commodity derivatives market was not affected.
On the possibility of extending trading hours, Joubert said the exchange had not received a huge volume of requests for an extension.
The JSE was investigating the cause of the technical problem, she said.
"Anything that affects our market participants is of huge concern to the exchange," Joubert said.
