Cape Town - The JSE slipped in early morning trade on Friday with the Top 40 [JSE:J203] falling 0.49% to trade at 38 486.12.
The All Share [JSE:J200] index weakened 0.46% to 42 815.77.
Construction firm Murray & Roberts [JSE:MUR] lost 1.24% to R23.98 and Northam Platinum [JSE:NHM] gave up 1.23% to R39.50.
BHP Billiton shares dropped 1.04% to R303.70.
Counters bucking the downward trend included Grindrod [JSE:GND] (+1.98% at R23.69), African Rainbow Minerals [JSE:ARI] (+1.21% at R193.92) and Imperial [JSE:IPL] (+1.21% at R217.50).
The rand has also held steady at R10.2645/$ at 08:47, but the currency remains vulnerable to domestic labour unrest.
