Johannesburg - South African shares hit fresh record highs
as the rand softened to near a two-week low on Friday following
worse-than-expected trade figures.
The Top 40 - (Tradeable) [JSE:J200] index added 0.3% to
33,766.91 and the All Share [JSE:J203] rose 0.2% to 37,994.
A weak rand is positive for resource companies, which earn in dollars but pay local obligations in the rand.
