Johannesburg – The JSE weakened on Monday morning in a very quiet market‚ with trading scheduled to close at noon.

“There is nothing really happening at the moment - trading volumes are very low. We are closing early today for New Year’s eve‚” said Ockert van Niekerk‚ head trader at PSG.

At 9:30‚ the All Share [JSE: J203] index was 0.52% weaker at 39 180.01 points.

“The looming US fiscal cliff is still a worry for the markets‚ but we have had a very strong December so far‚ so we may just be giving back some profit‚” he said.
