Johannesburg - The rand fell 5c against the dollar immediately after the release of disappointing Q1 GDP figures.
The 2013 first quarter GDP growth figure came in well-below expectations at 0.9% compared to 2.1% in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Following the announcement the rand fell to an intra-day low of R9.7457/$ and R12.5903/€ and R14.7110 to the British pound.
At 11:27 just prior to the announcement‚ the rand was trading at R9.6921/$‚ R12.5217/€ and R14.6303 to the pound.
