Rand slides more than 1.7%

Johannesburg - The rand fell more than 1.7% against the dollar in early Monday trade and government bonds also weakened, weighed down by the threat of more strikes in the mining sector.

The rand touched a week's low of R10.1425 after ending Friday's session at R9.9700.

The yield on the benchmark 2026 issue climbed 16 basis points to 8.105%, while the 2015 paper  was up 10 basis points at 6.26%.
