Johannesburg - The rand fell more than 1% on Friday to a
three-year low against the dollar, breaching a key support level at R8.61 as
investor risk aversion increased.
The rand briefly hit R8.6199, its lowest since May 2009
before recovering to R8.5960 to the dollar at 08:51 GMT.
It closed at R8.52 in New York on Thursday.
Analysts said once the rand convincingly breaks through R8.61, to could continue to fall to R8.80.
