Johannesburg - The rand edged higher against the dollar on Tuesday after the ANC re-elected President Jacob Zuma as its leader and brought in respected businessman Cyril Ramaphosa as his deputy. 

The rand firmed to R8.5520 to the greeenback from R8.5585 before the announcement.
