Johannesburg - The rand firmed slightly against the dollar early on Wednesday and was seen in familiar ranges in the absence of market-moving data.
At 08:36, the rand was at R7.4569 to the dollar, 0.28% firmer than Tuesday's close at R7.4780 in New York.
"It's starting off very quiet, (the rand) is a little bit stronger from last night... and I think the range today will be 7.40/7.55," said David Gracey, head of trading at Nedbank.
The rand touched a 10-day high of R7.4465 on Tuesday but has lacked momentum to gain further.
