“We had a good auction‚ so that should prompt some overseas investors to get back into our market‚” a local bond trader said.
At 11:40 the benchmark R186 bond was trading at 8.130% after closing at 8.290% on Monday and 8.210% on Friday. The R157 was trading at 6.400% from 6.475% previously and the R207 was trading at 7.600% from 7.690% at its previous close.
The rand was bid at R9.9669/$ from R10.0637 at Monday’s close and R10.2110 at Friday’s close.
The National Treasury allotted R800m of R2023 bonds at a clearing yield of 7.880%‚ R800m of R213 bonds at a clearing yield of 8.670% and R750m of R2048 bonds at a clearing yield of 8.990%.
Bids received were R2.03bn‚ R3.545bn and R1.755bn respectively.
Last week‚ the Treasury allotted R800m of R186 bonds at a clearing yield of 7.940%‚ R800m of R213 bonds at a clearing yield of 8.600% and R750m of R209 bonds at a clearing yield of 8.800%. Bids received were R1.76bn‚ R1.77bn and R1.45bn respectively.
