Berlin - German phone provider Deutsche Telekom says customers who use Skype's new iPhone application could have internet service discontinued for violating their contracts.
Deutsche Telekom spokesperson Alexander von Schmettow says iPhone contracts from the company's T-Mobile unit have blocked voice-over-internet programmes, or VoIP, since 2007. Von Schmettow says the iPhone application Skype falls into that category. He added on Thursday that the programmes could slow down T-Mobile's network.
Skype lawyer Robert Miller said the application, unveiled worldwide on Tuesday, poses no threat to network performance.
