Maputo - Petro-chemical giant Sasol and the international OSHO consortium won two of nine hydrocarbonates prospecting concessions tendered by the Mozambican government, the state-owned daily Noticias reported on Wednesday.
The concessions known as area A and B are located in the southern province of Inhambane and in the Rovuma basin in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
The paper said the public tender, launched in December 2007 for the concession of nine potential hydrocarbon areas in Mozambique, was only contested by the two companies in three of the nine areas.
Sources from the mining resources ministry, quoted by the paper, said that proposals for one of the areas did not meet minimum requirements and therefore the area had not been attributed to any of the applicants.
The tender was grouped into two land-based areas, two shallow water areas (the depth of which does not exceed 600 metres) and five deep water areas which are more than 600 metres in depth.
