Cape Town - South Africa has once again produced the International Winemaker of the Year.

Stellenbosch's Abrie Beeslaar of Kanonkop Wine Estate received the much sought-after Wolf Blass trophy at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) awards ceremony in London this week.

Beeslaar is the fourth South African and the second Kanonkop winemaker to receive this honour. Günter Brözel (1985) from Nederburg, Beyers Truter (1991), at the time from Kanonkop and now at Beyerskloof, and Altus le Roux (2001), until recently from Boland Wine Cellar, are previous winners.

The IWSC is the world's leading wine and spirits competition, with more than 5 500 products throughout the globe being entered.

Kanonkop's Paul Sauer 2003 also carried off the IWSC's Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande trophy for the best blended red wine.
