Johannesburg - The problems Americans are experiencing with Toyota models' accelerator pedals do not affect South Africans, the manufacturer confirmed on Thursday.
About four million North American cars have been recalled for reconfiguration of the pedals, which easily stick on a badly positioned floor mat and can cause accidents.
On Thursday FT.com reported that this was only one of several problems experienced with Toyota products.
The report says that the recall, which is Toyota's most serious in the US, comes at a time when the automobile manufacturer is trying to rebuild its reputation for quality and reliability. Ferdi de Vos, spokesperson for Toyota South Africa, gives the assurance that the recent problems will not affect local Toyota drivers.
