Cape Town - A total of R170.5m is owed
to the South African National Blood Services by the provincial governments
from around the country.
Giving the figures for the amounts owed by individual state hospitals to
Emma More of the Democratic Alliance, the Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi
said on Wednesday that the largest amounts are owed by the big hospitals in
Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
Chris Hani Baragwanath in Soweto owed more than any other institution
with an outstanding R15m total. Pretoria's Steve Biko Hospital
owed R13.35m. George Mukhari in Garankuwa outside Pretoria owed
R11m. More than R1.2m of this has been outstanding for
120 days. Johannesburg's Charlotte Maxeke owes R10.9m. Tembisa
Hospital owes more than R4m, and Tambo Memorial hospital in
Boksburg owes R2.96m.
The country's second-largest hospital the Edward VIII hospital in
Durban, owes R10.95m, and Albert Luthuli hospital also in Durban
owes another R3.2m.
Frere hospital owes R3.8m, Mthatha owes more than two million
rand, and Polokwane owes R2.5m.
