Johannesburg - White collar crime, especially fraud relating to company identity, is on the increase.
So says Coface, a company facilitating trade relations between businesses.
"We see three types of fraud, in particular, on the increase," reckons Jacqui Jooste, Coface's operations manager.
These are the changing of a delivery address, opening a false account in the name of a well-known company, and a change of banking details.
Fraudsters phone the supplier and change the delivery address. The goods are sent to the new address, but when payment is demanded, the buyer has no proof of the goods having been received.
Alternatively, fraudsters also pretend to represent well-known companies when placing orders.
