Riverside, California - Barbie-maker Mattel filed court papers asking a federal judge to block its competitor MGA Entertainment from making or selling Bratz dolls.
Attorneys for Mattel filed the papers on Monday in US District Court just over a month after a jury awarded the El Segundo-based company $100m in damages in the fight over the pouty-lipped dolls.
Isaac Larian, MGA's chief executive officer, said he was disappointed but not surprised by the filing.
I am happy to compete with (Mattel) in the marketplace," he said. "I had hoped they would take the challenge and do the same."
The federal jury found that the designer of the Bratz line conceived the idea while working for Mattel. Sales of Mattel's Barbie have slid since Bratz dolls came on the scene seven years ago.
