London - British energy giant BP announced on Monday that it had spent a total of $6.1bn so far in its response to the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The costs include the spill response, relief well drilling, the static kill and cementing of the ruptured well as well as grants to the affected Gulf states, claims paid and federal costs, the company said in a statement.
