I’m not the type of person who’s usually turned on by megapixels and memory sticks, but this sleek little black camera did get me excited. Apart from the vivid 3.5” OLED touchscreen, which allows for simple selection and photo browsing, the fancy 16.2 megapixel sensor and sharp backlighting have the ability to turn even the most wilted of barflies into a blushing beauty.
The clarity, detail and depth of colour this camera delivers are really something special. My favourite was the one-touch Intelligent iSweep Panorama mode: you simply press the shutter and pan the landscape and – by automatically linking together each frame – it produces an incredibly high resolution panoramic image.
For those 3D fanatics there’s also a 3D Sweep Panorama mode that allows them to be viewed on a 3D-compatible monitor. Your home videos will also be happily transformed with this camera, as it comes armed with one of the highest resolutions available and produces impressively fast motion footage.
Being very light and compact also make using its movie mode convenient and easy. And once you’ve captured your CNN-worthy footage, you can transfer it straight to your HDTV.
However, there are a few downsides. It isn’t waterproof. Its zoom is limited compared with other similarly priced options out there, and its settings are a bit difficult to negotiate at first. All in all, this is a super dinky and user-friendly little camera.
REVIEW
VERDICT: Powerful and playful – ideal for the happy snapper.
COMPLEXITY: Set aside 15 minutes to get yourself acquainted
PRICE: R3 500.
ALSO CONSIDER: Olympus Tough 3000/Fuji Finepix AV150.
VALUE RATING: 8/10.
