* Telkom’s mobile arm 8ta has launched BlackBerry services, including free YouTube streaming for up to 500MB of videos/month. Prices for the BLACKBERRY INTERNET SERVICE will range between R49 and R59/month. Contract customers who take a 24-month BlackBerry contract can also nominate one Telkom landline number to which they’ll be able to make unlimited free calls for the contract term.
* Researchers have discovered APPLE iPHONES, iPOD TOUCH and iPADS are secretly recording and storing details of all their owners’ physical locations. Security experts Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden claim location data is kept in a hidden, unencrypted file but with the right software it can be used to map exactly where someone’s been. Britain’s The Guardian newspaper first reported the findings. Analysts say Apple probably just uses the data to assemble a database of WiFi access points worldwide that it can use to more accurately place users for location-based services.

The satellite is owned by a consortium led by investment company Convergence Partners, with its chairman Andile Ngcaba. New Dawn will provide bandwidth for voice, data and other communications to Africa.
