THERE ARE ABOUT 5m Jews in the United States, which has a population of more than 300m. According to our Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fatima Hajaig, an overweight 70-year-old veteran of the struggle, that 1,6% of the people of the US controls the destiny of the nation.
Hajaig, a high-ranking servant of the people of South Africa occupying an important office of State, addressed a rally in Lenasia on 14 January protesting against the conflict in Gaza, a perfectly legitimate matter for debate. But Hajaig resorted to inflammatory, hate-filled anti-Semitism when she declared that the Jews "in fact control [America]. No matter which government comes into power, whether Republican or Democratic, whether Barack Obama or George Bush. The control of America, just like the control of most Western countries, is in the hands of Jewish money and if Jewish money controls their country, then you cannot expect anything else."
That will, perhaps, come as a surprise to Barack Hussein Obama - a black Christian of Muslim descent whose father was a Kenyan and whose close relatives are Muslims - who grew up in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim nation and who is now the freely elected President of the US.
On the other hand, our racist, prejudiced and deeply anti-Semitic Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs might point out that the new President of the US has appointed as his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, a committed Chicago Jew. He was a stalwart of the Clinton administration where, according to The New York Times (controlled by Jews and, therefore, in the Hajaig world view, no doubt part of the world conspiracy of "Jewish money") he was "instrumental in shaping domestic policy on issues like healthcare, welfare and trade".
It wouldn't come as a surprise to learn that among Hajaig's favourite readings is the notorious Protocols of the Elders of Zion - described in the second edition of The Oxford English Dictionary (Clarendon Press, 1989) as "a spurious publication of Russian origin purporting to describe Jewish plans for the domination of the world".
As Paul Johnson informs us, in his magisterial A History of the Jews (Weidenfeld and Nicholson, 1987), the Protocols were published in Russia when that was the only country in Europe "where anti-Semitism was the official policy of the government". "It took innumerable forms," wrote Johnson, "from organising pogroms to forging and publishing the Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
Wow, I've just realised Weidenfeld was a Jew. More evidence, surely, of Hajaig's conspiracy theories. No doubt her learned theses extend to the Theory of Relativity, gifted to mankind by another damned Jew, that Nobel Prize winner Albert Einstein.
Speaking of Nobel Prizes, there can, in the Hajaig world view, be no more clear a Jewish conspiracy to dominate the world. Just consider how many of them they've won. There are around 1,2bn Muslims in the world and 15m Jews. Yet Jews have won 179 Nobel Prizes and Muslims have won nine.
It can be argued the three most important minds of the 20th Century were those of Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx and Einstein. In Hajaig's tortured world view that would surely be evidence of a conspiracy, as would the Nobel Prize itself - notwithstanding it was founded by Scandinavian Christians. But Hajaig and her unhinged anti-Semitic fellow travellers will never permit the facts to interfere with their evil and insane conspiracy theories.
It appears from Hajaig's CV she attended Princeton University (not, as she puts it, the "University of Princeton"), where she allegedly received a "certificate" in "Foreign Affairs" and "the Media" in 1997. Your ageing correspondent was privileged also to attend Princeton and for some years has conducted voluntary work for the university in SA.
It's difficult to believe any sane person who has been exposed to what's taught at Princeton could entertain such lunatic concepts as does the mind of Hajaig. It's your ageing correspondent's intention to bring to the notice of Princeton that one of its former students is guilty of gross racism. Perhaps they'll withdraw her "certificate".
This egregious lady is also a member of the Pan-African Committee of Justice and Human Rights. Really? So Jews don't have human rights, such as that of dignity and innocence until guilt is proven - as your leader, Jacob Zuma, claims as he rushes from court to court to delay proceedings against him: pausing, of course, to dally with either one of his many wives or some young lass or other even if she declares to him she's HIV positive.
Hajaig recently read a statement over the radio regarding her remarks and the reaction to them. She didn't address - let alone repudiate - what the SA Board of Jewish Deputies describes as "the blatantly anti-Semitic sentiments originally expressed by her. (She) apologised for any hurt it might have caused to the Jewish community (but) the bulk of the statement in fact focused on the Middle East situation and Ms Hajaig's viewpoints in this regard".
The deputies added: "It can only be concluded that Ms Hajaig stands by her previous statement that the United States and most other Western countries are controlled by Jewish money power. As such, her latest statement does not constitute an acceptable apology but in fact serves to compound the original insult to the Jewish world, the people of South Africa and the United States government.
"The SAJBD urges the South African Government to unequivocally distance itself from the false, inflammatory and racially offensive allegations made by Hajaig."
Hear, hear - and they should sack her immediately.
