Toonaangewende internetpubli-kasies in SA groei sterk, met Naspers se News24 aan die voorpunt met ’n rekordgetal van 2 miljoen unieke lesers per maand. Terwyl dit nog nie naastenby kers vashou by die weeklikse leserstal van 4 miljoen vir die Sunday Times se drukuitgawe nie, dui dit nietemin daarop dat Suid-Afrikaners hulle ál meer na die internet wend vir nuus.
Jannie Momberg, redakteur van News24, meen die hindernisse vir digitale publikasies neem by die dag af. Hy sê ál meer Suid-Afrikaners het deesdae internettoegang, en baie van die toestelle waarmee daar op nuuswerwe ingeskakel word, is selfone.
Sosiale netwerke is ook grootliks vir die toename in verkeer verantwoordelik. Gebruikers van Facebook en Twitter gebruik dié platforms om persoonlike nuus heen en weer te stuur.
Momberg sê internetgebruikers skep toenemend self die nuusinhoud.
“Ons berus op drie beginsels: inhoud, gemeenskap en betrokkenheid,” sê Momberg.
“MyNews24.co.za, ons sentrum vir burgerlike beriggewing, getuig van die voordeel van hierdie benadering. Die inhoud wat gebruikers genereer, het die verkeer na ons diens beduidend laat toeneem danksy die tweerigtingplatform waarop lesers op die nuus van die dag kan reageer. Dit bied meer diepte asook ’n openbare perspektief.”
Party ontleders voorspel dat selfoongebruik vir internettoegang groei in SA sal aandryf namate ál meer selfone die funksie bied en die noodsaak van tafel- en drarekenaars vir dié doel uitskakel.
