The SA agency has become a "jewel in the crown" of Grey's Europe/Middle East/Africa region, says regional head Carolyn Carter. "Ann has led Grey South Africa through a dynamic resurgence, compiling a superlative record of growth and creative success. Her appointment is well deserved and she remains a tremendous asset to our network."
The once lowly rated agency has doubled in size over the past four years and moved sharply up the creative league table. It ranks as the most creatively awarded agency in the Grey network, sixth most creative agency in SA and has been a consistent finalist for Agency of the Year honours. Recent new business wins include Heineken and Amstel, Emirates Africa, Heineken Central Africa, Spitz and Abalengani Holdings.
A successor has not been named, but the joint MDs are Dallas Glover and Thandi Davids.
Nurock was the driving force behind a key agency initiative, the Grey Action Programme of internships for previously disadvantaged people in the agency environment.
In 17 years with Grey, Nurock rose to MD in 2000 and CEO of Grey Africa in 2004. The same year she became Jewish Business Achiever of the Year, finalist for Businesswoman of the Year and Boss of the Year and runner-up for Ad Person of the Year. In 2007 she was named by CEO magazine as one of the three most influential women in media and communications.
