A HIGH-LEVEL CONFAB to address the crisis in the marketing industry has been called by Marketing Association chair Brenda Koornneef. “Actually, there are several crises,” says Koornneef. “There’s the state of the SABC. Second, the funding, structure and governance of marketing industry bodies, such as the SA Advertising Research Foundation (Saarf).”
The object of the meeting on 29 September will be to arrive at action resolutions that will be followed by Marketing Association committees with volunteers from the floor. The association must be viable and for that desperately needs the full support and endorsement of the critical mass of marketing organisations.
“For several years after the Marketing Federation closed down an enormous gap was left, with our marketing interests unrepresented,” says Koornneef. “The marketing industry should play its rightful part in the management of our industry environment. We can’t allow other industry players – such as media owners – to make decisions without our input, which impacts on our industry.”
To meet escalating future needs, an increase in the levy is necessary but will be opposed.
