Advertising 'out of touch' with reality

Johannesburg - South African online advertising start-up Ad Dynamo has secured the rights to manage online advertising for leading British football club Arsenal in several countries on the continent.

These include South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.

Entrepreneur Sean Riley, the founder of Ad Dynamo, told Fin24.com: "Ad Dynamo is proud to have won the exclusive representation of Arsenal.com in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria - barring a few exceptions that honour some legacy deals already in place.

"This is a great show of faith in the South African market place, and Ad Dynamo is excited to have won the representation of such a powerful brand against other international rivals."

Riley added: "This demonstrates the strides we've made in internationalising our business, as well as the growing faith in South African-based businesses by the international community."

However, Brett Commaille, CEO of venture capital firm InVenfin which backed Ad Dynamo in 2009, was not getting ahead of himself when asked by Fin24.com if he believed Ad Dynamo could be hailed as a venture capital success story.

"We are travelling hopefully; are very encouraged with the progress to date," Commaille said.

Asked what he liked about Riley and his management team at Ad Dynamo, Commaille said: "One of the things we have been very proud of is what these guys have been able to achieve with a small team."
