A Fin24 user has started a recycling business, but needs funding. He writes:
I started my business for recycling bottles, registered with Petco (plastic recycling), but I have a problem.
I have a lack of funds because I don’t have equipment to collect material.
Our experts, business development consultant Anton Ressel and Platinum Black’s Ian Reid, respond:
Thank you for asking a very important question. Many entrepreneurs do not consider the funding aspect right from the onset and then end up in trouble.
The first thing you need to do is to put a “business plan” together. (You can download The Business Plan Book in English and Zulu for free.)
This will outline to yourself and your funders what you intend to do and what makes you different or unique.
The most important part of the plan is the numbers and projections you set for the business. They must be believable and realistic.
This plan is what will convince a funder to give you money.
Your first stops are the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) or the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (Sefa). They may be able to assist.
Seda will also be able to assist you with a business plan.
Another government funder that may be able to help is the National Empowerment Fund (NEF).
